Frequently Asked Questions
MicrocosmWorks recommended the custom theme approach because commercial themes include bloated code for features the client did not use, making page load times slower and updates riskier. The custom WordPress theme maintains the original design while giving the client complete control over the codebase, eliminating dependency on theme vendor updates that could break customizations. Performance improved significantly with optimized HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
MicrocosmWorks maintained the exact URL structure, meta tags, heading hierarchy, and structured data during the theme conversion to preserve search engine rankings. We set up 301 redirects for any URLs that changed, submitted an updated sitemap to Google Search Console, and monitored ranking positions for four weeks post-launch. The custom theme actually improved Core Web Vitals scores, which contributed to better SEO performance.
MicrocosmWorks built the custom theme with full Gutenberg block editor support, including custom blocks tailored to the client's content types. The theme registers custom block patterns and templates that maintain design consistency while allowing non-technical staff to create and edit pages. ACF (Advanced Custom Fields) integration provides structured data entry for complex page sections that go beyond standard blocks.
MicrocosmWorks typically completes a WordPress theme redevelopment in 4-8 weeks depending on the number of page templates and custom functionality required. At development rates of $10-$25/hr, a project similar to the Krystelis redevelopment ranges from $3,000-$10,000. This includes theme development, content migration, testing across devices, performance optimization, and two weeks of post-launch support.
Yes, MicrocosmWorks offers ongoing WordPress maintenance under our IT support plans starting at $400/month for 40 hours. This covers security patches, WordPress core and plugin updates, content updates, performance monitoring, and incremental feature additions. Since we built the custom theme, our team can make modifications efficiently without the debugging overhead that comes with unfamiliar commercial themes.
