HR operations were fragmented across spreadsheets, manual processes, and disconnected systems, making it difficult for HR teams and managers to maintain accurate employee information and manage day-to-day workforce operations.

We built Catant as an open-source, full-stack HR and workforce management platform that brings the employee lifecycle into one extensible ecosystem.

The platform combines a web portal for HR teams, managers, and administrators with a mobile application for employee self-service and attendance.

Its modular architecture allows organisations to customise existing functionality, configure role-based access, modify workflows, introduce new business rules, and extend the platform with additional integrations and capabilities.

  • Frontend: React-based web portal for HR teams, managers, employees, and administrators.
  • Mobile: Employee mobile application for attendance, location controls, authentication, and profile access.
  • Backend: Full-stack API architecture powering HR workflows, authentication, permissions, and mobile functionality.
  • Data: Centralised employee, attendance, leave, recruitment, payroll, performance, project, and support data.
  • Work Tracking: Kickly integration for employee work hours, tasks, activity grades, and recording blocks.
  • Storage: Amazon S3 for secure file storage.
  • Email: Amazon SES for automated email notifications.
  • Backup: Scheduled database backups to Google Drive.
  • Authentication: Secure authentication with JWT-based session management and granular RBAC.
  • API: Swagger/ReDoc documented APIs powering platform integrations and the mobile application.

Key Features

  • Employee Management — Centralised employee profiles covering personal, work, banking, documents, and work records. Organisations can configure companies, departments, job positions, employee types, work types, user groups, permissions, and employee visibility rules.
  • Attendance & Workforce Tracking — Employees can clock in and out through web or mobile. The system supports geofencing, face verification, attendance correction requests, work records, location controls, attendance history, and exports.
  • Leave Management — Employees submit leave requests while authorised users manage approvals, leave balances, holiday calendars, compensatory leave, and configurable leave-reset rules.
  • Recruitment Management — HR teams can create job openings, manage candidates, configure recruitment stages, organise skill zones, schedule interviews, conduct surveys, and optionally allow candidates to track their application progress.
  • Digital Onboarding — Configurable onboarding workflows guide candidates through account creation, profile completion, document submission, bank details, joining information, and onboarding tasks before becoming employee records.
  • Offboarding Workflows — HR can initiate exits, collect resignation and exit documents, complete HR and manager verification, deactivate employee access, archive records, and maintain searchable exit history.
  • Payroll & Performance — Administrative payroll functionality manages employee contracts, work records, payslips, and payroll dashboards. Performance management supports OKRs, 360° feedback, performance meetings, and performance dashboards.
  • Work Logs & Kickly Integration — Managers can review daily, weekly, and monthly work hours, task-level effort, project and epic allocation, ten-minute activity blocks, activity grades, input counters, and screen recordings, with access controlled by role and permission.
  • Project Management — Teams can manage projects, stages, tasks, task assignments, timesheets, and project dashboards while controlling access according to project roles and permissions.
  • Help Desk & HR Support — Built-in FAQ management and ticket workflows allow administrators to create, assign, claim, comment on, tag, archive, search, and track employee support requests.
  • Automation & Administration — In-app notifications, configurable email automation, audit history, scheduled database backups, secure file storage, company settings, and documented APIs provide the operational foundation for the platform.
  • Mobile Employee Experience — Employees can securely sign in, manage attendance through a swipe-based interface, view worked hours and attendance status, complete optional geofencing or face verification, and access their personal, work, and banking information.
  • Open-Source & Fully Customisable — Catant is designed as an extensible HR platform rather than a fixed, one-size-fits-all product. Organisations can customise modules, workflows, permissions, business rules, integrations, and platform functionality according to their specific requirements.
