Startup teams were losing weeks to planning and coordination overhead before writing a line of code.
- AI-First Planning: Generic project templates didn't work. The system needed to generate roadmaps with phases, tasks, timelines, and resource estimates tailored to industry and team size.
- Real-Time Collaboration: Multiple members needed to edit boards, timelines, and channels simultaneously without conflicts or data loss.
- Service Coordination: AI planning, task management, time tracking, chat, and billing needed to work together while scaling independently.
- Cross-Platform Sync: Teams switching between desktop and web expected every action to reflect instantly across both platforms.
- Complex Billing: AI credits, team seats, storage limits, and feature tiers required automated usage tracking and plan management.
- AI Latency: Concurrent plan generation and assistant queries needed to remain fast as usage increased.

We built Kickly as a distributed system where AI planning, collaboration, time tracking, and billing operate as independent services. Each service can scale based on demand without taking down the entire platform.
